Acne is a bit of a conundrum. Doctors will tell you that acne is not related to your diet, but mom will tell you it is because you eat too many French fries. You may have a friend who eats nothing but junk food that has the clearest skin in the world, but a strict vegan buddy who is completely covered in acne. How can anyone determine if diet is related to acne, and if so, what changes to make to your own diet to eliminate your acne?
There is one main reason why doctors will tell you that acne is not related to diet – they have nothing to gain by saying it. If someone actually proved that you could prevent and treat acne by changing one’s diet, an entire industry would be put out of business. The people who make acne medications, cover-ups, surgeons, dermatologists, and the dozens of magazines who write about acne would have nothing to do!
The truth is, however, that acne is affected by diet. Acne is not caused by a bad diet, but it can be made worse by one. Additionally, there is no one magic food source that cures all acne, but a change in diet can eliminate it. In fact, some natural changes can eliminate acne in as little as three days.
There are some foods that are bad for acne sufferers. These include fried foods, fatty foods, and dairy products. All of these foods contain oil which, in conjunction with already oil pores, can make acne worse.
Some foods are good for acne sufferers. In general, these are natural foods that have not been processed and contain no preservatives, additives, or hormones. All whole grain foods are great for acne sufferers, as are organic alternatives to traditional meat products. When buying poultry or meat, make sure that it is organic and not treated with hormones. Soy milk is a far superior choice than regular milk, and any products made with soy are better for acne than those made from regular milk.
All natural products such as fresh fruits and vegetables will help to restore a proper fiber and sugar balance in your body, and if you must have sugar, choose unprocessed, unrefined sugars such as honey or maple syrup.
By making changes to your diet that incorporate holistic, all natural foods, you will notice an almost immediate relief from acne.
